Cinema is an universal experience and while it is easy for people to catch a movie on the go, it’s not the case for those with special needs. Especially children with special needs might find theatres with crowd, bright lights, the long ques to be cumbersome.
Addressing this issue and to make cinema accessible to everyone, SPI Cinemas in a noble attempt has come up with SENS, a special show which will be organised to cater to the needs of people with special needs. Features of the show will will be dimmed lights, lowered volumes, unrestricted movement and chatter within the screen and longer intermission. It is also worth mentioning here that this concept is being done in India for the very first time.
In addition to this, SPI will be taking extra care in modifying the menu such as sugar-free, gluten-free food. These sensory friendly shows will be held on the first Sundays of every month at participating theatres. The first such film to be held will be 'Jungle Book' coming Sunday at Sathyam Cinemas, 10.30 am. A wonderful concept, isn’t it? Let’s hope that it catches on and more such concepts come out to make cinema inclusive to all categories of people.
