In August 2015, Paris was engulfed in fear, after the city bound Thalys train from Amsterdam carried a gunman who opened fire onto general public. Three men - an airforce personnel, an army guard, and a television personality took the forefront in ensuring safety. The three (in order), Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos, and Anthony Sadler, received various decorations for their valiant efforts, including Legion of Honour from the French president François Hollande, and US Army Soldier's Medal from the then USA president Barack Obama.
Together, the three put their experience in words, compiled as the book 'The 15:17 to Paris'. At an eventual award function, a chance interaction with Clint Eastwood set the ball rolling to the incident becoming a movie.
"We thought Eastwood wouldn't consider our idea of a movie of the book seriously, until he contacted us later on the idea really materialising," said Stone. What's even more exciting in the project is that now Eastwood has insisted that these three real life heroes also play their roles in the movie! With this, these men will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance of working with Hollywood's legendary filmmaker.
