Spanish artist Alicia Framis is about to put her name in the history books by marrying an artificial intelligence (AI) hologram. The powerful combination of advanced holographic technologies and machine learning brings AlLex, her holographic partner, to life as a digital entity.
The Spanish artist has already found a place for his weird wedding in the city of Rotterdam; it will take place in a local museum. And still, this wedding is not a love affair but a part of Framis's creative project, Hybrid Couple. This project aims to explore the boundaries of intimacy, love, and identity in the era of AI.
Describing her project, Framis said that it would become an art documentary combining drawings, interviews, and sketches dedicated to the discovery of the integration of holographic technology into our daily lives. Particularly, she pointed out the AI potential for giving companionship to lonely and grieving people.
Framis thinks that a new era of relationships is appearing, which links up humans not only among themselves but also with holograms, avatars, and robots. To her mind, in the development of languages through services such as Duolingo, relationships with AI entities would also become a standard fact.
Sharing on social media highlighted another use case of holograms and robots: the fact that they serve the primary purpose of companionship. They are considered social, empathetic beings. Framis compared them to smartphones or laptopsâsimply that they would be infinitely more sophisticated and in a way that would be so much closer to our daily livesâproposing that holograms might rid us of loneliness and improve our lives.
