Humans are very resourceful, no doubts there. Hearing about a rock being used to prop open a door may not be that surprising at all. But imagine if a rock used for such purposes fetched you more than $100,000(over Rs.70 lakhs in INR).
Well, it has to be a special kind of rock, doesn’t it? And that’s exactly what happened to a lucky guy in Michigan. His was a meteorite. Reportedly he received it from a man who sold him a farm property many years back. The guy then got the rock along with him wherever he went. It’s the latest use being used as a prop to open his home door.
Only recently did he get this to a geology professor Mona Sirbescue and found out that his special ‘rock’ was worth a fortune. And as for Mona, this became the first real meteorite that she happened to identify after years of people coming to her with normal rocks. The meteorite is 85.5% iron and 11.5% nickel.
And the rock was even sent to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington and it was confirmed a space meteorite. The man didn’t want his name to be out but promised 10 percent of the profits for the earth and atmospheric sciences studies.
