SP Balasubrahmanyam is no more. The legendary singer passed away on Friday afternoon, at 1:04 pm. He was 74. The saddest news was first broken by Venkat Prabhu, the Tamil actor, on Twitter.
He battled with coronavirus for about a month. After testing negative on September 7, everyone hoped that the worst was over. SPB's health improved considerably. Shockingly, on Thursday, news came out that his health deteriorated once again.
SPB, the multi-talented film personality, was born in Nellore, on 4 June 1946. A self-trained singer, he was a learner all his life. An Engineering dropout, SPB ruled the roost, singing about 40,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam and 10 other Indian languages.
A household name in much of India, his TV shows 'Padutha Theeyaga' and 'Swarabhishekam' will always be a treasure trove of wisdom for lovers of music.
A recipient of six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer, Balu received 25 Nandi Awards from the AP government.
Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011) were conferred on him by the Government of India.
IndiaGlitz condoles the unfortunate passing away of the beloved Balu. May he attain Sadgati!
