Things went awry for a newlywed couple in South Africa as they were arrested on the day of their wedding along with 50 of their guests as they had violated the nationwide lockdown protocols.
The couple was arrested at their wedding venue in KwaZulu-Natal along with all the guests and the pastor who conducted the ceremony on Sunday and were taken to a police station outside Richards Bay. The whole group will reportedly be produced in court on Monday. A video of the couple being taken into custody in their wedding attires has been going viral on social media. The uMhlathuze municipality said the newlyweds would be "spending their honeymoon under stringent bail conditions." South Africa is currently in its second week of quarantine. The country has reported over 1600 cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths so far.
COVID-19 has claimed the lives of more than 76400 people and infected over 1363600 people across the world. The virus was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, in China. As the death toll and overall cases began rising rapidly across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency and the outbreak has now been labelled a pandemic.
