Amazon Prime Video bagged Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' for this huge amount?

Out of the blue came the announcement on Saturday that Suriya's most awaited film 'Soorarai Pottru' will premiere on Amazon Prime Video and start streaming from October 30th. The news was received with joy by one section of fans while the others were disappointed to miss out on the theater experience.

Suriya had explained why he took the decision for the sake of all those involved in the film and his upcoming projects. He also pledged to donate five crores rupees from the business for the coronavirus relief measures for the film industry workers as well as the public.

It has now been reported that Amazon Prime Video procured 'Soorarai Pottru' for rupees sixty crores in the current deal. Already the US based streaming platform had bought the streaming rights for rupees twenty crores and now have shelled out the rest of the money for exclusive nontheatrical rights.

Already the satellite rights of 'Soorarai Pottru' has been bought by Vijay TV for rupees twenty crores and when the Hindi dubbing and other rights are included the film has already crossed rupees hundred crores business according to sources.

'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara and jointly produced by Shikya Entertainment and 2D Entertainment has music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. The film loosely based on Air Deccan founder Captain G.R. Gopinath's life has Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu and Jackie Shroff in the cast.
