Song Review: Oh Priyaa Naa Priyaa (‘Mehbooba’)

‘Oh Priyaa Naa Priyaa’ drives home the appealing moral and emotive message that borders are man-made and love is always spiritual.  Although the word Mehbooba makes an appearance so many times through the course of the song, it’s the time-tested ‘Oh Priyaa Naa Priyaa’ which is highlighted as the song’s title.  

Bhaskarabhatla pens evocative lines.  The stanzas are short but so sweet.  Why do love and tears go together, the girl (played by Neha Shetty) wonders.  His presence undoes the noise of war for her.  Her absence is real war for him.  

Pragya Das Gupta and Sandeep Batraa strike the right chord.  When he croons ‘Mehbooobaaaa’, Sandeep’s voice is almost infectious.  Pragya Das’s soft voice matches the feminine attribute of the number.  

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, this cross-border love story stars Akash Puri as the hero.  It will hit the screens on May 11.
