In a career spanning a dozen odd films, Soha Ali Khan may have acted in number of romantic comedies. However with 'Chemistry' she is taking her comic timing to a different level. Reason being that she was challenged to so something that not many have tried before i.e. be a mix of Dev Anand and Charlie Chaplin.
"When it comes to imitating the two legendary actors, there have been a few Bollywood men who have tried this in the past," says a veteran Bollywood follower, "Raj Kapoor found his inspiration from Chaplin while Jackie Shroff made a career out of adapting the body language and mannerisms of Dev Anand. However no actress can be singled out for following any of the two."
The closest who came to doing this was Sridevi who went the whole hog in imitating Charile Chaplin for a much remembered scene from the Mr. India (1987). However that too was for just one sequence and again, the film came close to a quarter of a century back.
Now with Soha taking up the challenge of bring both the personalities together on screen though her body language and act, she is ultra excited about the characterisation.
"It is a departure from anything that I have done before, whether romantic or comic," says Soha who has Shreyas Talpade for company in the film, "Anyone will tell you that adopting the characterisation of just one of them can be really handy; here I have to be a mix of Dev Anand and Charlie Chaplin."
While Soha indeed was nervous about how she would be able to pull it off, a series of reading sessions helped her eventually get it right.
"Well, I hope that shows on screen," she smiles, "'Chemistry' is a very sweet and romantic film and I thought that instead of pondering too much over my scenes, I would instead aim at being spontaneous. Of course I had to study the part well but once the shoot began, I just let myself go."
One hopes this chemistry experiment brings on favourable results.
