Acclaimed filmmaker Rajesh Touchriver's social thriller 'Dahini: The Witch' is one of the most-acclaimed, content-driven films of the year. In a welcome piece of news, the film has made it to the Swedish International Film Festival.
Starring Tanishtha Chatterjee and JD Chakravarthi, the film also features Ashique Hussain, Badrul Islam, Angana Roy and others. Produced by Orion Pictures International Pvt. Ltd. and SunTouch Productions, the film's narrative structure and central message mirror the conscientious thinking of the National Award-winning director.
Padma Shree recipient Sunitha Krishnan, one of the producers of 'Dahini', is proud of her film doing well in the film festival circuit. She says, "Our film attempts to expose the existence of the centuries-old evil with the aim of encouraging collective action."
The makers are also happy that the film has also got the Best International Feature Film honour at the Pacific Beach International Festival.
Shot in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district (where witch-hunting is said to be rampant), the film is close to reality. "Our film deals with the problem of witch-hunting, which continues to raise its ugly head in several parts of India," the makers say.
Cinematographer Noushad Shereef, Sound Designer Ajith Abraham George, and Background Score composer George Joseph are getting accolades for their work.
