He was a BJP activist. He was a close aide of Smriti Irani. He worked relentlessly for the defeat of Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. On May 23, the shocking result was out in Amethi. Just three days later, he found himself killed by goons.
He is Surendra Singh, a former village head and BJP worker, who was murdered today by "unidentified assailants". He helped Irani throughout the campaign and played a role in making most voters choose BJP in his area. His son has said that no family member could see the faces of the killers but they think that the murderers belong to Congress party. "We suspect that some specific people are involved in the killing of my father," he said.
Smriti Irani has left for Amethi to meet the bereaved family members and give them moral support.
