Six passengers killed as train runs over them in Andhra

In a shocking incident, as many as six passengers were crushed to death after a train ran them over in Andhra Pradesh. The incident happened on Monday night in Batuva village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, the victims got off their Secunderabad – Guwahati Express when their train halted due to a technical snag. The passengers got down from the general bogie of the train and were waiting on the adjacent track when Konark express came from the opposite direction and crushed them. "So far, we have identified six bodies. The Government Railway Police is reaching the accident spot to ascertain if there are more casualties," Superintendent of Police, Srikakulam, G R Radhika said on Monday night.
Two of the deceased were identified as belonging to Assam and 4 were unidentified. Several others were also injured in the incident. The railway and local police reached the site of the accident and have launched an investigation. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed grief over the incident. The Govt has announced ex-gratia of 2 lakh each to the deceased person.
