Six months, six hits and thirty six flops

The last six months has been something that tells the real dilemma of Mollywood cinema.
The last six months produced thirty six flops while only six films managed to become hits. The films in the hit list includes ÂHelloÂ, ÂChocolateÂ, ÂKatha Parayumpol , ÂKangarooÂ, ÂRoudram and ÂCycleÂ.
Of these thirty six films in the flop parade, many were from the established stars, directors and banners which were earlier thought out to become big earners.
The biggest flops in the half year includes ÂNasraniÂ, ÂRock N RollÂ, ÂFlashÂ, ÂCollege KumaranÂ, ÂCalcutta NewsÂ, ÂBlack CatÂ, ÂRomeoÂ, ÂSound Of BootÂ, ÂNovel and 'Of The People'. All the above films were believed to do some wonders to the industry and the careers of the respective stars.
The star mostly affected by this flop run is Mohanlal who have just completed his list of six flops. Among these six at least a four were from established directors like Shaji Kailas, Sibi Malayail, Thulaseedas and Renjith , who always delivered hits.
Jayaram too is at the lower end of his career graph with his 'Novel', not even fetching an average opening. So is the case of Suresh Gopi whose recent movie 'Sound Of Boot', also flopped. Dileep also had a disturbing six months with at least two big flops in ÂRomeo' and the big budgeted 'Calcutta News'.
The big problems with these sinking films are that the movies don't pick up at any point of its run, if it gets an initial bad word of mouth. With the lack of newsprint advertisements, due to some pressure from producers associations, no film is able to return to glory, if written off in its first week. The people really don't seem to believe in increased television advertisements and discussions which boost every film as the best.
The only actors who survived the bad tide seems to be Mammootty , Sreenivasan, Prithviraj and Jayasuriya, who saved themselves by only appearing in some sure bets, sometimes even in supporting cameos, like the one that Mammootty has done in 'Katha Parayumpol', Jayasuriya too escaped scathe free with his roles in hits like ÂArabikkathaÂ, ÂChocolate and ÂKangarooÂ.
