Elephants are one of the largest animals on the planet and their hearts are also large and are known to value family and friendship as evidenced in a heart-wrenching incident. At Thailand's Khao Yai National Park there is high waterfall from which a baby elephant apparently fell on Saturday. Six other elephants were involved in an attempt to rescue it but they all plunged to death trying to save each other. The authorities found two other elephants from the herd dangling on the cliff and rescued them and are monitoring them reporting that they are in great shock and grief and may not survive.
The Haew Narok (Hell's Fall), has already claimed eight elephant lives in 1992 in a very similar incident. Thailand's Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation authorities have stated that there are 7000 Asian elephants in their country half of which are in captivity. The tourist spot has been temporarily closed.
