On the eve of the grand Christmas release of Velaikkaran` we caught up with the intense personality Mohan Raja who has shared some exclusive details about the film. Here is the transcript of one of the most interesting thirty minutes for you.

Why no trailer for Velaikkaran` ?

It was a conscious decision as we did not want to reveal the content of the story, but instead we have done many TV spots that are getting huge response from fans.

You seem to have cast the entire Nadigar Sangam members in your film?

(Laughs) Many colleagues in the industry were surprised and asked me how the story would justify such a huge starcast but that is the beauty of Velaikkaran` which is a movie for three classes of people and it needed all the wonderful actors on board.

What is the film about?

The story is about Arivu (Sivakarthikeyan) and how he reacts to his family, his neighborhood and his society. It is a man versus himself genre as the questions that he asks of himself leads him to a journey of self discovery.

You are a content driven director...How did Sivakarthikeyan fit into your story?

I actually had two stories in mind and combined them into one after Sivakarthikeyan came on board and I can assure that whatever he is famous for is in the film and I have made commercial compromises which will not be apparent but hidden in the story telling. My father taught me that to convey a strong message first you have to give the audience what they expect and then pass it on to them which I have done in this film.

In 30 seconds, please give us a gist of what the story of Velaikkaran` is all about...

It is a zero to hundred concept, a very ordinary man who has to earn his next meal announces that he will change the society and how he does it is what forms the interesting screenplay. There is a deadline to the hero in this story which has never been explored before on cinema.
