Sita has situational songs except one: Anup Rubens

Anup Rubens' upcoming album in Telugu is 'Sita'.  In this interview, he talks about the film, why it's special to him, in what way has director Teja made it a new kind of entertainer, not doing many films these days and more.

What kind of a movie is 'Sita'?

There is love, comedy, emotion, action.  It's a new-genre film, the type of which I have never watched before.  It's not just the hero but everyone is important in the story.  Sita is played by the heroine (Kajal Aggarwal).

How was it a new experience working on the film?

The songs are all situation-based.  'Bulreddy', in which Payal Rajput has danced, is the only commercial song.  The other five songs are story-based and take the story forward.  Two singles are already out and they have become hits.  RR is also integral to the story.  The characterizations of the lead pair and the villain are such that I needed to do homework.  Teja garu had told about the film long back and I was very enthusiastic about this project for long.

Teja garu comes with a lot of clarity.  Sometimes, he okays a song in just 5 minutes.  I know his tastes and what he wants.  I have done two films back-to-back with him.  I had done 'Nene Raju Nene Mantri' after a gap of several years.  'Sita' is my 4th film with him.  He is a very good narrator and it helps the music director visualize things and give the right tune.  Vikram Kumar sir, and Puri Jagannadh sir are also like Teja garu when it comes to okaying a tune without taking much time.

Why are you doing less number of movies these days?

Last year, there no releases unlike what I had expected.  In a way, it gave me space to relax, especially because I had been working non-stop.  I have worked with many stars just for one time. I want to repeat the stars so that there is more impact on my career.  I have been doing Kannada movies as well.  I have a film lined up with Sandalwood star Ganesh.  There are three other projects happening.

Sita has situational songs except one: Anup RubensYou were doing quite many films in the past.  Why not now?

There was a time when I used to do 9-10 movies a year.  It happened that I repeated tunes because of the overload of work.  By taking more time between two films, I am able to ensure variety.  Working on new kind of scripts like 'Sita' can inspire a music director to come up with new flavours.  Some genres, like folk, never go out of fashion.  A music director can't make much tinkering with them.  Star heroes' movies help you increase your reach.  People listen to them at least once.  'Mana Desam' song from my first movie is played even to this day in schools on Independence Day, etc.

Audiences have become demanding these days.  Isn't it?

Audiences' tastes are transforming.  They are now liking slice-of-life dialogues more.  They are also watching dramatic movies like 'Baahubali' in which characters speak in a high-sounding language.
