British singer Zayn Malik and American supermodel Gigi Hadid have parted ways after two years of courtship as Zayn had allegedly hit Gigi's mother Yolanda Hadid, who then apparently considered filing a police report regarding the incident. Zayn Malik issued a statement on social media shortly after.
Zayn Malik claimed that Yolanda had entered his house several weeks ago while Gigi was away. He also denied the latter's claims of striking her her and stated that his daughter Khai's privacy was of utmost importance to him. While Gigi is yet to address the claims, her representative informed media, "Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time." Zayn Malik's subsequent statement read, "In an effort to protect that space for (his daughter Khai) I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner's who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago."
The singer added, "This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press. I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves."
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik started dating in 2015 and mutually decided to separate in March 2018. The couple, however, got back together in December 2019 and were spotted together hanging out in New York on several occasions in January last year. Zayn and Gigi welcomed their baby daughter Khai in September 2020. "Our baby girl is here, healthy & beautiful. To try put into words how I am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love i feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, & thankful for the life we will have together," Zayn had said back then.
