The music world is mired in controversies. After Kollywood lyricist and poet Vairamuthu, a few names from the classical music world have been outed in the 'Me Too' movement by victims of sexual harassment. A top music director of Mollywood has also been named by a girl. And now, Kailash Kher is facing Sexual Harassment Allegation No. 2 (days after a photo journalist outed his name)!
A woman named Sona Mohapatra, a singer, has described an encounter with Kailash Kher in the past that went horribly wrong for her. She met Kher at a cafe in Mumbai, only to be touched inappropriately. "You are so beautiful," he told her. Sona felt uncomfortable and excused herself from the meeting immediately. But Kher's inappropriate behaviour didn't stop even after that.
"On landing in Dhaka and on my way to the venue (of a concert) with the organisers, he keeps calling me and when I don’t pick up, he calls the organiser's phone to get through to me and asks me to ‘skip’ the soundcheck and join him in his room instead to ‘catch up’. The fact that Kailash had sung in my studios and for many projects in which I was the producer and knew me to be as strong as I am or that he had only recently taken a favour from my partner to create a personal track for him didn’t stop him. The hubris of such men," Sona laments.
