Singer KS Chitra beats S Janaki's record

By winning the Nandi Awards for the best female singer for the 11th time, Mollywood’s favourite singer KS Chitra has surpassed veteran singer S Janaki’s record of winning the prestigious award 10 times. The legendary singer, bagged the Nandi award for Best Singer (Female) 2014 for rendering her voice for the track Gopikamma from Varun Tej-starrer Mukunda. Chitra’s first Nandi Award for best female playback singer was won in 1990. In the following years, the versatile singer won the award several more times.  

Meanwhile, Malayalam singer Vijay Yesudas won his first Nandi award for the Best Singer (Male) 2014 for singing the song Nee Kanti Choopullo from Nandamuri Balakrishna's action thriller Legend.
