Kollywood's favourite singer KS Chitra received the Padma Bhushan title from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovindin New Delhi and has returned to Chennai recently. Expressing her happiness on being conferred the prestigious honour, the singer has now shared a video and also written about it on her social media pages.
Chithra wrote, "Dear all I am back in Chennai after receiving the Padma Bhushan from the @presidentofindia . I also thank the Hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji for giving us time for a personal meeting".
"I dedicate this award to all those listeners of my music over the last four decades, all the Producers, Directors, Lyricists & Composers who had given me the songs, My Gurus & My Parents. I bow my head in gratitude. God bless you all. God bless India. Jai Hind. #PadmaAwards2021 #PadmaBhushan #KSChithra (sic),"she added. She also shared photos with Narendra Modi whom she had met personally after the ceremony.
Chita made her playback singing debut in 1979, with the Malayalam film Kummatty. She was introduced in Tamil films by maestro Ilaiyaraaja with the song Poojaikketha Poovithu in the year 1985 and came next, is history. She has so far recorded over 25,000 songs across several languages and also holds the record for the highest National Awards won by a female playback singer
