In a heartwarming Chinese New Year message to the young couples, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that the population of the nation is dropping and they have to have more kids. He took to Instagram, where he shared a photo of his granddaughter, along with a message that married couples should "embrace the symbolism of the 'little dragon,' long associated with prosperity and good fortune, as they welcome a new family member.
The Prime Minister stated in his speech that the family plays a very important role in acting as the bedrock of constantly providing support, helping one find a sense of identity, and passing values on to the various generations.
He then underlined that having kids is a personal choice but was, in the same way, concerned with the global trend of reducing fertility rates, more so in developed countries like Singapore.
PM Lee acknowledged the pressures that couples would feel in wanting to realize their career aspirations while trying to balance their personal lives. But he hoped that they would make family a priority first.
Amid the competing pressures of modern life, PM Lee said he looked forward to many more couples making the choice to have children and doing so earlier. In conclusion, PM Lee wished everyone good health and a prosperous time in the celebration of Chinese New Year.
