Legendary filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is returning to the director’s chair after 14 years with his ambitious project Sing Geetham, which is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 12. Produced by Nag Ashwin under the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema banners, the film has already generated considerable curiosity with its teaser and songs.
Speaking at the film’s press meet, Nag Ashwin described Sing Geetham as one of the most unique projects ever attempted.
“This is a film that Singeetam sir wanted to make nearly 40 years ago with Kamal Haasan. Unfortunately, it did not materialize at that time. This is his dream project, a vision he has carried with him for four decades,” Nag Ashwin revealed.
According to him, Sing Geetham is unlike anything audiences have seen before.
“When Singeetam sir first narrated the story, he told us that no one in the world had made a film like this. After spending a year working on the project, we realized he was absolutely right. This is a truly original concept,” he said.
The film revolves around a fascinating premise where people in a village are forced to communicate through songs instead of spoken words.
“The idea itself is extraordinary. Audiences won’t feel like they are watching songs interrupt the narrative. The music naturally becomes part of the storytelling. It is a fantasy-comedy musical that offers a completely fresh cinematic experience,” Nag Ashwin explained.
Praising the veteran filmmaker’s creativity, he added, “Singeetam sir has always been ahead of his time. Even today, his ideas feel futuristic. Films like Aditya 369 still feel advanced. His stories never age, and his imagination continues to inspire generations.”
Nag Ashwin also showered praise on music director Devi Sri Prasad, who played a crucial role in bringing the film to life.
“This was an extremely challenging project from a musical perspective because every character expresses themselves through songs. DSP worked tirelessly on the film and dedicated an incredible amount of time and passion to ensure the music became an integral part of the storytelling,” he said.
Explaining why the team decided not to release a conventional trailer, Nag Ashwin noted that the film’s biggest strength lies in its novelty.
“The concept is so unique that revealing too much through a trailer could spoil the experience. We want audiences to discover the film directly in theaters,” he stated.
Drawing a comparison with Singeetam’s cult classic Pushpaka Vimana, Nag Ashwin remarked, “People often think Pushpaka Vimana was intentionally designed as a silent film. But Singeetam sir simply created situations where dialogue was unnecessary. Similarly, Sing Geetham is not a musical for the sake of being a musical. The songs emerge organically from the story itself.”
Expressing his confidence in the film, Nag Ashwin concluded, “This movie is a gift to the current generation because no one has attempted something like this before. I have watched the film nearly a hundred times and never felt bored. After watching it, audiences will talk not just about the story, but about the soul and heart of the film. We strongly believe it will connect with viewers and emerge as a commercial success.”
With a visionary filmmaker, an innovative concept, and a passionate creative team behind it, Sing Geetham is shaping up to be one of the most distinctive releases of the year.
