Simbu has always identified himself as a Thala Ajith fan and not only in public but also in his movies he has lauded the mass hero whenever possible. A couple of years back however Simbu had annouced that he will not have references of Ajith in his movies. Thala fans started trolling Simbu by stating that he used their hero for his benefit and is discarding him suddenly. Co-incidently Vijay came to T.R's rescue during the release of 'Idhu Namma Aaalu' which caused speculations that STR had switched his loyalties.

In a recent interview Simbu opened up about the controvery and has revealed that he stopped Ajith references because people started projecting that he was trying piggy bank on the mass hero's fame. To prove that he loved Ajith as a hardcore fan but not for any commercial mileage he took the decision. STR concluded that in his heart he still has the same adulation towards Thala but has no necessity to prove to him or others regarding the same.
