It was announced in June 2018 that director Venkat Prabhu had decided to launch Simbu in his upcoming political thriller Maanaadu, produced by Suresh Kamatchi under the V House Productions banner. Kalyani Priyadarshan was roped in to play the female lead in the film.

The producer recently announced that the film had been dropped, as he could not afford any delay in the release. Fans were extremely disappointed when the announcement was made as they had all their hopes on their star's comeback pinned on this film. A rumour is now doing the rounds that Simbu has launched his own movie, titled "MaghaMaanaadu," which will be produced under T. Rajender's production house, Chimbu Cine Arts. The reports add that the shooting of the film will begin soon. Official confirmation of the same is awaited.
