Simbu's gangster drama, 'Pathu Thala', had a grand theatrical release yesterday. It is the official remake of the Kannada gangster saga 'Mufti'. While Gautham Karthik played the protagonist, STR portrayed the overpowering grey-shaded AG Ravanan role, the land mafia kingpin.

Pathu Thala, directed by Obeli N Krishna, is jointly produced by Studio Green and Pen Studios. Today, the production houses revealed the official first-day collection of Pathu Thala with an electrifying poster of Simbu. The movie collected Rs 12.3 crores on the first day, which is the career-best opening numbers for Silambarasan TR.

Also, Pathu Thala marks the third-highest opening day of the year in Tamil cinema behind Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu. Despite the mixed reviews, Pathu Thala continues to do well at the box office. The film also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gautham Menon, Teejay, Kalaiyarasan and others with music composed by Isai Puyal AR Rahman.
