On mother's day, May 9th at 11.09 pm the popular director and actor Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaran lost their mother Manimegalai. She was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after a brief illness and breathed her last. Many celebrities from the Kollywood industry have extended their messages of consolation to the grieving husband Gangai Amaran and his family.

Simbu a close friend of the family has shot a letter to them in which he has written in Tamil that knowing them even more closely for the past two years during the making of 'Maanaadu' he has come to know how difficult it is for them to bear this loss. He also added that he along with the family he too would like to share the grief.

Simbu has extended his prayers for the soul of Manimegalai Gangai Amaran to rest in peace.
