Simbu was one of the prominent stars who did not participate in the Nadigar Sangam initiated silent protest against the center and state governments functioning in the Cauver Management and Sterlite issues. He later stated that since the film industry was reeling in a strike situation it is not appropriate to attend the protest without seeking a resolution for those from the government.
Simbu was also of the opinion that a silent protest is of no use and only through speech a resolution can be arrived at and thats why he ignored the film fraternity event. The 'Chekka Chivantha Vaanam' star said that Tamil Nadu is in the grip of a curse after the demise of former chief minister Jayalalitha and only after the reason for her death is revealed the grim situation will become better.
Simbu also got emotional and said that no one would listen if they were told not to watch the IPL matches but protesters should be allowed to wear black and enter the stadium and that is what Abdul Kalam's sould told him.
