In Tamil cinema, actor Silambarasan TR (STR/Simbu) is currently the talk of the town as the ‘Arasan’ (King), headlining the much-anticipated action drama directed by Vetri Maaran and produced by Kalaippuli S. Thanu under V Creations. The film’s first schedule of shooting successfully wrapped up in locations like Kovilpatti and Madurai.
The promo video, released as a special on Anirudh Ravichander‘s birthday in October 2025, showcased Silambarasan in dual get-ups — a youthful look and a rugged 45-year-old appearance — receiving massive praise from fans. The film officially confirmed Vijay Sethupathi as a key co-star, alongside familiar faces from Vetri Maaran’s Vada Chennai universe, including Samuthirakani and Kishore. This marks the first-ever collaboration between Vetri Maaran and music composer Anirudh.
Set in the extended Vada Chennai universe (but in a different era), the story begins in Madurai with a sports enthusiast (kabaddi background) character nicknamed ‘Madurai Tiger,’ played by Silambarasan. It follows his journey to North Chennai and the high-octane events that unfold there.
The first schedule featured Silambarasan alongside Samuthirakani and Kishore. While the second schedule was initially expected post-Pongal, delays occurred primarily due to Vijay Sethupathi’s packed commitments, including Jailer 2, Slumdog 33 Temple Road, and another project with Balaji Tharaneetharan.
Latest Update: The second schedule has now kicked off in Chennai (as of early January 2026), with intense action sequences between Silambarasan and Vijay Sethupathi being shot. The team plans to ramp up filming across multiple Chennai locations starting around January 20.
Talks are underway to bring Samantha Ruth Prabhu on board as the female lead (potentially reuniting the VTV duo after 15+ years), with reports indicating she could be the primary heroine. Sources suggest there might be a second heroine in the film as well. In a later schedule, Silambarasan is expected to undergo another major look transformation.
The shooting is anticipated to continue through June or July 2026. Fans are thrilled that Silambarasan has already earned a spot in Vetri Maaran’s “good books” right from the first schedule.
Adding to the excitement, Silambarasan is also in discussions for a project with director A.R. Murugadoss. Meanwhile, he is set to begin shooting for another film directed by Ashwath Marimuthu (tentatively around April 2026).
With its gripping gangster-action vibe, powerhouse cast, and top-tier team, Arasan is shaping up to be one of the biggest highlights in Tamil cinema — and Silambarasan is firmly positioned as its reigning king! Fans can’t wait for more official announcements.
