Shyamalan's THE HAPPENING collects Rs. 255 cr over the weekend

The film has opened to a total worldwide Box Office of 63 MILLION US $ being UTV - First South Asian Company to foray into International Cinema.

"The Happening" - Released Friday 13th Worldwide gross 31.5 million $ in US Domestic Office (source Variety & Rentrak) in its 3 day weekend.

UTV’S “THE HAPPENING” DOES 60 MILLION $ (RS.255 CR) OPENING WEEKEND WORLDWIDE

KEY FACTS:

1) UTV – First South Asian Company to foray into International Cinema

2) Their second release – also a hit. The first one NAMESAKE – a Co Production with Fox – produced for 8 million $ - did a Box office of over 18 million $ theatrically plus on equal amount further earned in Home Video & TV Syndication.

3) “The Happening” – Released Friday 13th Worldwide gross 31.5 milion $ in US Domestic Office (source Variety & Rentrak) in its 3 day weekend
- Plus worldwide figures are flowing in – but consolidated figures show close to additional 30 million $ from rest of the world
- Opened to No. 1 overseas with an estimated $32.1m from 5,714 screens in 88 markets. It delivered several number one launches led by France on $4.6m from 550 screens, Spain on an excellent $3.8m from 389 and Italy on $1.9m from 371.
- Other notable territories include the UK on $3.4m from 389 in third place, Mexico on $2.6m from 557 for second place and Shyamalan's biggest debut, Russia on $2.1m from 482, Germany on $1.8m from 550 in third and South Korea on $1.6m from 240 for third. In Brazil on $1.3m from 181 for second place, Australia on $1.5m from 240 for fourth, Belgium on $467,184 from 60 for first place and Holland on $357,475 from 78 for third.

4) The Happening was released with over 4500 prints over 2986 Theatres across North America. Plus another 5600 prints Worldwide.

5) The Happening – Co Produced by UTV & 20th Century Fox – at a budget of 55 million $

6) The “HULK” – Released on the same weekend – at a production cost of 150 million $ (3 times Happening) grossed 54.5 million $ in US Domestic Vs Happening’s 31.5 million $.

7) Sixth Sense – M. Night’s first release did – at that time – an opening US Box Office of 26 million $ Vs The Happening 31.5million $.

It opens in Japan on July 26th.
