What is it all about?
YRF new age bride runs away from its usual Band Baaja Baarat but celebrates the `suhaag raat' of affairs in its live -in relationships with some `real' exuberance and pride of its own grace and warmth, without resorting to the usual romantic comedy cliche's scoring rightly in those flirts (read humour) but somehow fails to establish its own `character' and take its argument on live in relationships and marital commitments further..
The Story
Having the writing powers of someone like Jaideep Sahni (Chakde! India, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Rocket Singh) expectations are bound to be high.. and the talented writer does thinks of an interesting ideas on the new age India's `commitment' towards himself and in relationships questioning the institute of marriage in this rom com which is set in Jaipur and starts off superbly where we see Raghu (Shushant Singh Rajput) falling for Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra) on his way to his shaadi with Tara (Vaani Kapoor) runs away from the marriage only to share a live in relationship with Gayatri in Jaipur where both of them experience the confusion on attraction, love and commitment till the very end..
What to look out for
The idea and the approach by the helmer writer duo Maneesh Sharma and Jaideep Sahni which is full on desi , the dialogues are snappy and the comical situations do have something to comment on the institute of marriage and live in fundas of today.. the confusion amongst the youth gets convincingly establish in the screenplay.. the chemistry between Sushant and Parineeti on screen is electrifying.
Performance are of high standards where Parineeti Chopra getting the top honors.. she is absolutely marvelous as Gayatri .. extremely confident and absolutely spontaneous.. superb.
Sushant Singh Rajput is remarkable and gives full justice to his role..
New find Vaani Kapoor is a talent to look out for..
Rishi Kapoor again shows he is such a treat to watch him perform on screen..
What not
With such a excellent first half Jaideep and Maneesh set a bar and the expectations of something unique and different in this rom com will emerge that might also underline the belief of the protagonist with some solid cinematic statement.. but unfortunately last 15-20 minutes turn big spoilers where the writer and the director take an escapist route and instead of making the audience think on the relationship issue, they make them laugh on the confusion of its lead characters where no one comes promisingly strong.. if it was a mirror to the ongoing relationships amongst the youth then it wasn't clear in the end as it should be..
Conclusion:
Shuddh Desi Romance : This funny exuberant take on today's relationships amongst youth is innovative in its idea and remarkably performed having some fine moments but it preference to be funny and confusing all the way keeps on avoiding any space for a cinematic debate. It can still be something for your date but for art called cinema it's an opportunity gone waste..
