Expectations

In the times of globalization, our film makers have enhanced their topics and have been trying to venture into many forbidden themes. These topics and themes manage to excite content loving audience.

Ayushmann Khurrana is known for doing some daringly different films and his latest film 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan' talks about a taboo subject of erectile dysfunction. The trailer has managed to grab many eyeballs and the recent success of Ayushmann's last release 'Bareilly Ki Barfi', has raised the expectations level.

Story

'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan' is a story of Mudit Sharma (Ayushmann Khurrana) who is in love with Sugandha (Bhumi Pednekar). A shy natured Mudit fails to share his feeling with Sugandha and thus sends an online marriage proposal to her. Sugandha's parents (Neeraj Sood and Seema Pahwa) agress to Mudit's proposal. Mudit and Sugandha start knowing each other and in a heat of moment decides to get physically intimate with each other. Sadly, at that point Mudit discovers his problem of erectile dysfunction due to which he is confused over his marriage with Sugandha. Before Mudit and Sugandha could resolve this problem, everyone around them starts knowing about it leading to a huge chaos.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The basic story idea is short and simple. The treatment is outstanding and the screenplay in the first half of the film is highly engaging as well as entertaining. There are back to back enjoyable scenes in that part followed by some post interval.

The makers have tried hard not to cross the tine line of vulgarity and keeps displaying the main problem with the help of different metaphors.The dialogues are highly hilarious and witty to its fullest.

The cinematography is good and goes perfectly with the flow of the film. 'Kanha' has been brilliantly placed. 'Rocket Saiyyan' is enjoyable.

Director R. S Prasamma comes up with a refreshing topic and presents it with total grace. Without even getting inside the necessities of the genre, the movie shines out on its own merits. The director does not cross the thin line of vulgarity and does his part with total conviction.

Ayushmann Khurrana looks great and does his part with total grace. Bumi Pednekar is fantastic in her character and shines out in the emotional scenes. Neeraj Sood, Seema Pawha, Brijendra Kaale, Chittranjan Tripathy and others lend outstanding support.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The second half also keeps the fun quotient intact leading to a weak, lethargic, repetitive and illogical finale. The last fifteen twenty minutes are among the worst part of the film.

Sadly, after a given point these scenes seems like forced and repetitive. The simple topic is stretched to its fullest with some illogical situations and terrible climax shot related to the cable car. A taboo subject like erectile dysfunction being shared to entire family members seems unconvincing and impractical as it goes ahead.

The makers instantly displays the main problem of Ayushmann but takes entire time to resolve it. The emotional connect is nowhere to be seen in this movie.

The music by Tanishk-Vayu is average and fails to get registered with its audience. The over the top climax and repetitive scenes along with impractical situations in the climax ruins the entire fun.

Jimmy Shergill's cameo was totally unwanted.

Final 'Glitz'

'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan' is a fun-filled adult ride which excites you initially leading to monotonous effects.
