Earlier this week Shruti Haasan has backed out of the mega budget project 'Sangamithra' which will be directed by Sundar.C. and produced by Sri Thenandal Studios Limited. The 'Vedalam' actress announced her decision after undergoing training for sword fight to play the titular character of the princess Sangamithra in this historical fantasy film aimed as India's costliest film.

However Shruti is not the first to walk out of the project. Earlier Bollywood cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee was zeroed in for the cinematography but he also walked out. Later he was replaced by National award winning cinematographer Tirru.

Jayam Ravi and Arya have been roped in to play the male lead characters in the film but they were not the initial choices of the makers. The makers had talks with Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Mahesh Babu to play the lead roles in the film. Later Suriya's name was also doing the rounds. But all the three leading stars could not take up the offer as the project demands a huge number of call sheet days.

Moreover 'Sangamithra' was initially announced as the 100th project of 'Thenandal' banner but now VIjay starrer Atlee directorial 'Thalapathy 61' has been announced as the 100th project and 'Sangamithra' has become the 101st project.

But the changes and initial confusions are common for any attempt of such a huge scale. One should also note that there are many positive developments about the project in the recent days.

The Oscar winning music director A.R.Rahman is on board for the project and he was one of the first technician to be finalized for 'Sangamithra'. He also enthusiastically took part in the launch of the film in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. 'Sangamithra' also happens to be the Indian film to be launched in the world renowned Cannes after a long time.

So it is clear that the 'Sangamithra' team will steer clear of the initial obstacles and will create history in Indian cinema as it is set out to.
