Amidst the chaotic second wave of Covid-19 virus, people are again forced to stay at home away from the possible sources of virus contraction. World's most prestigious cricket tournament IPL is going and it has become a source to entertainment and distraction for people who are locked up in their homes. However, actress Shreya Dhanwanthary has criticised the T20 league for organising matches while the nation is facing so big a threat.
Shreya, who is know for her portrayal of Sucheta Dalal in 'Scam 1992', tweeted, "The fact that the IPL is going on, and that there is a lot of powerful silence; almost, almooost makes me forget that our nation is smack in the middle of a major humanitarian medical political man-made crisis." Although continuing IPL might seem insensitive at this time but most of Shreya's followers didn't agree with her. Apparently, a cricket match every night keeps the positivity and liveliness alive in otherwise gloomy lives.
Legendary former cricketer Adam Gilchrist also addressed the issue in his tweet. He wrote, "Best wishes to all in India. Frightening Covid numbers. #IPL continues. Inappropriate? Or important distraction each night? Whatever your thoughts, prayers are with you.”
