It's known that a huge controversy has been going on over the proposed destruction of the Aarey forest in Mumbai for the construction of a Metro project. Several NGOs, activists, civil society organizations and, above all, Bollywood celebs have opposed it. "Aarey is precious and cutting down thousands of trees for Metro is stupid." This is their line of argument.
Among those who have raised their voice against the felling of Aarey forest are 'Saaho' heroine Shraddha Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Lata Mangeshkar and others.
The critics of the Metro project have been trolled severely on social media by those in favour of the Metro. "These Bollywood actors and actresses live luxurious lives by travelling in SUVs and living in air-conditioned rooms. Their luxuries are anti-ecology. They damage the environment. On the other hand, the Metro project will actually reduce environmental pollution in the long term. Cutting down 2,700 trees is nothing. The Metro will result in disproportionately higher benefits," a Facebook user says.
"The likes of Dia Mirza use luxury vehicles for their comfort. And they preach the middle-class Mumbaikars who travel in overcrowded trains and die by thousands when they accidentally fall off the footboard," says a Twitter user.
