Noted economist-journalist-turned-politician Arun Shourie has regretted his ‘mistake’ of supporting Narendra Modi as the BJP’s Prime-Ministerial candidate during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Shourie was speaking at a literary fest organized in Kasauli in the picturesque Himachal Pradesh. A senior leader of the ruling BJP at the Centre, Shourie, who served as Union Minister of Communication & Information Technology from 2002-04, observed that he was highly ‘disgusted’ with the present political scenario.
“It was a huge blunder by me to have supported Modi’s candidature as Prime Minister prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. It was in fact my second mistake after supporting V.P. Singh’s candidature as Prime Minister several years back. There is no need for anybody to support every initiative that the ruling party undertakes. We have to keep in mind the pre-poll promises and earlier statements by those ruling the country now.
“Future can be determined only by observing their past thoughts and present deeds. Modi’s ‘Gujarat model’ of growth has failed throughout the country which the media has grossly failed to analyze. The Centre is wholly responsible for more than 15 lakh losing their employment. The assurance that 2 crore jobs would be created per year has also not been fulfilled,” Shourie concluded.
