Shooting the satellite was not necessary: Mamata

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has on Monday said (almost) that DRDO's Mission Shakti was not needed at all. In the same breath, however, she also acknowledged the achievement of the scientists.
Commenting on Narendra Modi breaking the news to the nation, the TMC supremo said, It's a political announcement. I would say that scientists should have announced it because the mission is to their credit. Only one satellite was destroyed and it wasn't necessary. It was lying there since long, it's the prerogative of scientists as to when to do it. I will complain to the Election Commission.
It's the contention of some political parties that Modi has violated the Model Code of Conduct.
