Last week, Sachin Tendulkar and a host of other national celebs tweeted out in support of the Modi government over the farmers' protests. The news is that, on Monday, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the state government is going to order a probe into their tweets. He indirectly suggested that the probe will look into whether the BJP had forced the celebs to make those tweets.
The movie has come in for criticism. In effect, the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government of Maharashtra wants Sachin, Akshay Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and the like to be answerable to what they have tweeted.
JP Nadda, the National President of BJP, wrote that the Maha Vikas Agadi government in Maharashtra has a unique model of governance. "They hail noises of anarchy from overseas who show India in poor light but harass patriotic Indians who stand for the nation. It is difficult to decide what is more flawed: their priorities or their mindset?" he tweeted.
BJP leader and former Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis has described the move as disgusting and deplorable. Nitesh Rana of BJP asked how someone can even think about probing the likes of Sachin and Lata, who are Bharat Ratnas.
