Prashanth Neel’s highly anticipated film Salaar, starring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Shruti Haasan, was released on Christmas 2023, setting the stage for a clash with Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki.

Initially hailed as a blockbuster by the makers, despite reports of underperformance and suspicions of inflated collections, a recent report sheds light on the reality behind the scenes. Contrary to earlier projections, the pan-Indian film encountered losses in certain regions, prompting the producers to take action. It's been revealed that Salaar failed to meet its high costs for some distributors in the Andhra region, leading to financial strain.

According to sources, distributor Mythri Movie Makers saw returns from Salaar in the Nizam region. However, other distributors in Andhra Pradesh found themselves in a loss-making situation after purchasing the film at high prices in anticipation of greater returns.

In response to the distributors' losses, producer Vijay Kirgandur stepped in to compensate them. While it's not uncommon for distributors to demand refunds in such scenarios, this time it was the producer who initiated the move to alleviate the distributors' financial burdens.

The news of Salaar's makers reimbursing distributors prompted various reactions from audiences, with some expressing skepticism about the reported box office figures. Nonetheless, the Prabhas-starrer, with a reported budget ranging from Rs 400 to Rs 450 crore, managed to gross around Rs 600 crore worldwide. However, to break even, Salaar would need to surpass the Rs 800 crore mark, as per reports.

Despite the setbacks, the makers confirmed plans for a sequel, titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam, shortly after the film's release. Producer Vijay Kirgandur stated that the script for Salaar 2 is ready, and both Prabhas and Prashanth Neel are eager to proceed with the project. While the sequel was initially slated for release in 2025, there have been no updates since the announcement.
