Shocking! China gives tax breaks to boost export of wild animals

China's wet markets have been breeding grounds for diseases like COVID-19 (allegedly). The whole world expected the country to close them down. Hard luck. China is now incentivizing wet markets in new ways!

As per media reports, China has banned the sale and consumption of wild animals but has started incentivizing the export of wild animals to support the domestic industry.

Says journalist Palki Sharma of WION, "Far from shutting down the wet markets, China is incentivizing these disease incubators - conditions ideal for the transfer of viruses from animals to humans. The government is offering tax breaks on the export of “exotic” animals. China’s live reptile exports go to Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, etc."

With this, the risk of spread to global markets is now higher. It's up to other countries to ban imports of wild animals from China.
