The 66th National Awards in various categories were announced today. Many are shocked that ‘Care Of Kancharapalem’ has failed to bag a single National Award.
Released last year, ‘COK’ was the year’s most critically-acclaimed feature film after ‘Mahanati’ and ‘Rangasthalam’. Written and directed by Venkatesh Maha, it won applause from non-Telugu film critics and discerning audiences as well. Its dialogues, performances, screenplay and sensibilities were hailed in elaborate opinion pieces and reviews.
Surprisingly, while even ‘Chi La Sow’ (not to take away from its uniqueness) won an award (in the Best Original Screenplay category), ‘COK’ drew a blank. Suresh Productions couldn’t make much money from the movie. Nor could the banner find a place at the high table today.
