A political storm has erupted in Andhra Pradesh over allegations of substandard ingredients, including animal fat, being used in the famous Tirupati laddu prasadam during the previous YSRCP government.
TDP supremo and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, speaking at an NDA legislature party meeting, accused the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government of using "animal fat" instead of ghee in the revered offering. He claimed that the temple has been "sanitised" and now uses pure ghee under the current TDP administration, leading to improved quality.
This claim was echoed by TDP leader Pattabhi Ram Kommareddy, who pointed to alleged financial irregularities and the appointment of Reddy's uncles as TTD Chairmen during the previous term. He stated that a preliminary vigilance report revealed a significant amount of funds being looted and the use of animal fat in the laddu, bypassing lab tests.
The allegations have sparked outrage, with TDP IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressing shock and accusing the YSRCP of disrespecting the religious sentiments of millions of devotees.
However, the YSRC party vehemently denied the charges. YV Subba Reddy, former TTD chairman and YSRC leader, branded Naidu's allegations as "malicious" and damaging to the sanctity of the Tirumala temple and the faith of Hindus.
Adding fuel to the fire, a recent test report from the CALF lab under the National Dairy Development Board confirmed the presence of animal fat, including fish oil and beef tallow, in the ghee used for the laddus. This revelation has prompted calls for action from groups like the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), who are demanding a thorough investigation and strict punishment for those involved.
The controversy surrounding the Tirupati laddu prasadam has raised serious questions about the management of the revered temple and the accountability of those in charge. As the political battle intensifies, the focus shifts towards ensuring the sanctity of the temple and protecting the faith of millions of devotees.
