'The Cut', a New York magazine, has cast aspersions on Priyanka Chopra's marriage with American singer Nick Jonas. Columnist Riah has gone to the extent of writing that Nick is in a fraudulent relationship against his will.
To give a taste of how offensive the article is, here is what the columnist wrote: "All that Nick Jonas wanted was a possible fling with Hollywood’s latest It Woman (referring to Priyanka, who had crossed over from Bollywood a few years ago), but instead he wound up staring straight at a life sentence with a global scam artist."
Visibly shocked by the tone of the article, actress Sonam Kapoor has described it as "sexist, racist and disgusting". Actor Arjun Kapoor wrote, "I know Priyanka personally and I am fairly certain Nick Jonas hasn’t been kidnapped and forced into a union of love... The magazine has an unhappy opinionated racist frustrated journalist who has gone on and on about two people who by choice have gotten married. Tacky and uncouth writing."
"The story reeked of post-colonial racism. In other words, when privileged white men make money and enjoy it, it is normal. But when a brown woman does the same thing, she is painted as a “scam artist"," commented Kathleen Davis.
The magazine has deleted the article from its portal. "An earlier story about Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas did not meet our standards. We've removed it and apologize," 'The Cut' has said.
