Renowned Tamil actor Kasiammal, celebrated for her performance in the acclaimed film 'Kadaisi Vivasayi,' met an untimely demise at the hands of her 54-year-old son, P Namakodi, at their residence in Tamil Nadu's Madurai district. The Usilampatti Taluk police promptly apprehended Namakodi in connection with the tragic incident.
Kasiammal's portrayal in 'Kadaisi Vivasayi,' alongside veteran farmer Nallandi and actor Vijay Sethupathi, garnered widespread praise and recognition. However, the recent events have cast a somber shadow over her legacy. According to Sub-inspector Balasubramani, Namakodi, allegedly intoxicated, engaged in a heated argument with his mother, demanding money for alcohol. The situation escalated, leading to a fatal assault with a wooden log. Sadly, Kasiammal succumbed to her injuries and was discovered lifeless by family members on Sunday morning.
Initial investigations reveal ongoing disputes between Kasiammal and Namakodi, primarily centered around financial support for his alcohol purchases. The Usilampatti Taluk police have initiated legal proceedings against Namakodi, filing charges under IPC section 302 (murder). The murder weapon has also been confiscated, and Kasiammal's body has been transferred to the government hospital for post-mortem examination.
Reports indicate that Namakodi, estranged from his wife, relied on Kasiammal for financial assistance. Along with her husband Paulsamy, Kasiammal raised three children, including Namakodi.'Kadaisi Vivasayi,' directed by M. Manikandan, is a poignant Tamil-language drama featuring an ensemble cast. The film was honored with the Best Feature Film In Tamil award and a Special Mention for actor Nallandi at the 69th National Film Awards. Tragically, Nallandi passed away shortly before the film's release, adding another layer of loss to the 'Kadaisi Vivasayi' community.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of substance abuse and family disputes. The loss of Kasiammal, a respected actor who brought joy to audiences, is a tragic reminder of the need for support and intervention to address such issues.
