Back in 2018, a Chinese state publication proudly spoke of a virus bank in Wuhan, China. Here is what it said: "Take a look at the largest virus bank in Asia! Wuhan Institute of Virology in Central China's Hubei province preserves more than 1,500 different strains of virus." Even pictures of the bank and its proud scientists were published.
Cut to 2020, everyone is scared of the words Wuhan and virus. Millions across the world believe that one of the many shady virus banks and biotech labs in Wuhan may be responsible for the COVID-19 tragedy. In this context, the particular tweet of the Chinese publication is going viral.
Referring to the virology institute, geostrategic expert Brahma Chellaney says, "There is no evidence that the novel coronavirus escaped from a lab. But as more labs in the world study deadly pathogens, the risk of accidents cannot be discounted. Here's state-run China Daily in 2018 boasting about 1,500 different viruses in Wuhan lab."
The danger from these shady labs is in addition to the Chinese habit of eating wildlife and the country's unhygienic wet markets.
