In 2007, Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty were in Rajasthan to create awareness about AIDS. Gere hugged the actress and planted a kiss. This triggered someone and a complaint was filed against Shilpa Shetty for allegedly indulging in obscenity. At that time, legal harassment was imposed on her by filing two cases in Rajasthan and one in Uttar Pradesh.

On Tuesday, the actress received relief from a Metropolitan Magistrate, who dropped charges against her and said that the cases have no ground. The relief has been offered to her after 15 years.
“Not a single element of any of the alleged offence is being satisfied in the complaint. Moreover, none of the paper annexed with the final report discloses act of present accused so as to bring her within the purview of Section 34 of IPC (common intention),” the court said, as per a report by Bar & Bench.
Soon after the verdict, Shilpa took to Twitter and wrote a post without mentioning the case. "Being happy is in your hands. Don’t wait for another person, or the weekend, or a special occasion to bring you joy and happiness. When you want to take a couple hours off from your schedule, do it. Want to read a book? Buy it and give it at least an hour every day," she exhorted her followers.
