There is no denying that Bollywood has always been biased towards its female actors. Although things are changing now but there was a time when being a Bollywood actress meant making a lot of compromises. The treatment of aged actors in the industry was one such issue. While female actors were cast as mothers or grandmothers after reaching their late twenties, their male counterparts could play the same old loverboy characters even in their fifties.
Brilliant actress and 'Delhi Crime' star Shefali Shah recently opened up about this issue and how she stood up against it. She recalled the time when she had to play Akshay Kumar's mother just at the age of 28. After that she decided that she'd rather sit at home instead of playing such problematic characters.
During a recent conversation with News 18, Shefali said, "I played age very early. I played Akshay Kumar's mother when I was around 28. I got Hasratein when I was 20 and played a 30-35 year-old in it. After a point, I decided if I'm not getting the work that really drives me crazy, I will sit at home. I reached this peace that such kind of work won't come every day. And the few films I did raise that bar. I've said no to work even if it meant sitting at home for two years not doing anything."
