At a YFLO Mother's Day event, seasoned performer Sharmila Tagore recently shared her early parenthood memories. Recalling her 1970 birth of her son Saif Ali Khan, Tagore said that for the first six years of his life, he felt a little absent. In the middle of a busy schedule, juggling two shifts a day, she apologized for not giving those early years her whole attention.
Recognizing her previous mistakes, Tagore acknowledged that in subsequent years she had been a overzealous mother, trying to make up for lost time by becoming fully involved in every facet of Saif's upbringing. She thanked her spouse and the encouraging group of friends and family who got her through those difficult early years.
As she considered her motherhood, Tagore said that although she may not have been there for Saif in his early years, she was there for her children, Saba Pataudi and Soha Ali Khan. She stressed the important part that encouraging peopleâlike Saif's school teacher and her extended familyâplays in raising her kids while she works.
Tagore has previously revealed details about her parenting experience in a 2012 interview on the program Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai. She told how her job responsibilities kept her apart from Saif for long stretches of time when he was younger, but they also made it possible for her to spend more time with her children.
Professionally speaking, while Tagore won praise for her portrayal in the online film Gulmohar, Saif is preparing for his next film Devara, in which he plays a police officer opposite Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor in her South film debut.
