The shocking suicide of a nineteen-year-old aspiring actress raises awareness about how youngsters should not be obsessed with comparing themselves with others on social media and thereby drive themselves to take the extreme step. Shante Stephenson was found hanging in her wardrobe cupboard by her father on June 27th, 2018 in London. Only five days earlier she was discharged from a NHS crisis team who had certified that she was beyond any danger.

Shante Stephenson right from the age of 11 is said to be with low self esteem and always felt that she wasnt good enough and even attempted suicide at the age of 12 after a family argument. A year before her death she had once again attempted suicide but was saved. At the coroners' inquest that was held on April 17th this year, her psychiatrist Dr. Travis had explained that she was continuously comparing herself to her peers and frequently looking at multiple social media sites and she had also informed him that she was overweight when in fact she had the correct one for her age. Those present at the inquest were of the opinion that teens should use social media judiciously and not to become depressed due to peer pressure on the platforms.
