"Shankardada M.B.B.S.", the Telugu remake of Hindi film "Munnabhai M.B.B.S.", remained on top of the charts while the light-hearted comedy "Anand" has set a new trend in Telugu cinema.

1. "Shankardada M.B.B.S.": Super star Chiranjeevi showed his crowd-pulling capacity by registering record-breaking openings for this comic caper. The tale of a goon-turned-medico has impressed all sections. After "Bavagarun Bagunnara", this is the second hit for the Chiranjeevi-Jayanth duo.

2. "Aapthudu": Rajsekar's comeback film has opened well and it remains to be seen how it settles down in the coming weeks. Though the plot, inspired by Hindi hit film "Ghatak" is outdated, scenes of emotion and action have made the film a big draw. After eight hits, veteran director Muthyala Subbaiah and Rajsekar have joined hands again for a sentimental-stunt saga.

3. "Anand": The film is definitely a surprise hit of this season. Director Sekar Kammula, who bagged a national award for his English film "Dollar Dreams" has now dished out a light-hearted comedy. Young actor Raja has scored his maiden hit with the film and debutant Kamilini impresses as a girl with attitude. The film was released with two prints in multiplex theatres but now the makers are trying to reach out to a wider audience by increasing the prints. The success of "Anand" could trigger a trend towards a multiplex brand of films in Telugu.

4. "Mr. and Mrs. Sailaja Krishnamurthy": Veteran director Siva Nageswar Rao, who made hits like "Money" and "Pattukondi Chudam", tells a love story of two pilgrims. Sivaji and Laila are impressive. The off-beat theme, however, promises no sure success for producer Atluri Purnachandra Rao.

5. "Sye": The film has slipped in popularity with new releases but is holding on due to its good publicity. The slick, youth-oriented entertainer with Nitin and Genelia in the lead has mesmerized the young but failed to draw family audiences in a big way to cover its huge investment.
