Shankar Dada MBBS
It is very difficult to argue against success. And so it will be in the case of Shankardada MBBS. The film, a faithful take-off the much written about Bollywood flick Munnabhai MBBS, is perhaps the most anticipated film of this season.
For one, Munnabhai MBBS is the hottest movie on the remake circuit (Kamal Haasan is playing the film in Tamil as Vasool Raja MBBS). For another, Shankardada MBBS stars Chiranjeevi --- the supreme star in Tollywood.
Basking in the glory of mega success of Tagore, Chiru opted for this film because of the fun associated with it. As he himself said in an interview some time back, After doing two serious subjects Indra and Tagore, I was planning to do an entertainment-oriented character for a change over. At that point I got this project. Along with humor and entertainment this character also has human touch to it.
Chiru also said that he could not say no to this character.
As it happens, this film fell on his lap under fortuitous circumstances as there many other top stars (including Venkatesh and Balakrishna) who were after this film. Chiru has been ably supported by Srikkanth in this film. The crusty veteran that Srikkanth has become now plays the role that Arshad Warsi played in the Hindi original.
For the svelte Sonali Bhendre, this is a major film after her marriage. She is the heroine of the film and she has come up with a neat and compact performance. The supremely talented Paresh Rawal plays an important role in the film and he is also said to have enjoyed his character in the film.
Music director Devi Sri Prasad has delivered some foot-tapping numbers and to match that, the producers have shot the songs under expensive sets. they are planning to erect three sets for the song which add cost a crore rupees. The hottest item song actress in tonw, Anajala Jhaveri (who incidentally acted opposite Chiru in Chudalani Vundi) has shook her leg for a rollicking song in this film.
The director Jayanth Paranji is a past-master in handling big budget movies. Shankardada MBBS is obviously a big budget movie (the artistes salary itself is running into crores of rupees) and not surprisingly the film has been sold for high prices.
Humor, as they say, is indeed serious business.
